Waka Pūhara

The waka pūhara (also known as waka kōrari) was made of kōrari (dry flowering flax stalks) and rimurapa (bull kelp), which was inflated and built into the base. It was sturdy enough to travel along the coast, yet light enough for people to carry.
The waka pūhara was often used around Wharekauri (the Chatham Islands), where there weren't large enough trees to build larger waka.
