Year 5

Year Group Day

Year 5 - Olivia B, Alice, Sophia W, Bonnie, Minnie, Holly-Rose, Bede, Inaki, Raj, Solomon, Vivek, Max, Tyler, Hannah, George  (Absent: Sophia S, Brie, Peter, Charlotte, Laura)

We had a super morning, working as a Year 5 group.  We spent time reconnecting with one another and exploring possibilities for what we might like to learn when we are together (on a Thursday) next term.  We began creating a pic collage all about ourselves to help let the younger members in our Waka Pūhara whānau get to know us better too.

Wheels Day Wednesday

Wonderful Wheels Day Celebration

WOW!  What a wonderful afternoon we had on Wednesday celebrating the end of our Cause and Effect Unit of work.  Too busy to caption all of of the photos, so relying on our wonderful Waka Pūhara whanau to leave comments explaining how much they enjoyed their afternoon.

A HUGE, GIGANTIC, ENORMOUS 'shout out' to Bede's Dad for making an amazing ramp for the Waka Pūhara team to use for the afternoon .... over and above the call of duty ... WE THANK YOU!
Your contribution to the day helped many of our students display the habit of mind of Persistence ... overcoming fear and 'Riding the Ramp'!  Included in this number was Bede himself.
Congratulations to all of those who achieved this goal.

Home Learning Week 10 Term 2

Home Learning - Week 10 Term 2

Week 10 - Nearly There!

This week is Maori Language Week.

For home learning this week:

  • Find a piece of current events and share it with the class - you choose the format.
  • Organise your wheels for Wednesday - you MUST have a helmet to wear if you are riding ANY wheels.
  • If you have any resources for pre European Maori at home, please bring them in to share with us (if you are allowed)
  • 'Sell' the class one, fun and interesting activity that you could do during the holidays - we will add this to our team 'I'm bored, what can I do?' list.

Wheels Day Wednesday

Wheels Day Wednesday

As an end of term finale for our 'Cause and Effect' unit of work, we are having a celebration afternoon for Waka Pūhara students ... an afternoon of wheels!

This may include:  skates, roller blades, remote controlled cars, small cars, trikes, scooters, bikes, skateboards .... anything with wheels really!

If your child has an easily transportable ramp that can be used during this time we would welcome this also.

Areas of the playground will be sectioned off for different types of wheels.

Parents are welcome to come along and help supervise on this fun afternoon ... the more pairs of eyes we have, the more areas we can have set up for the children to enjoy.

Please email or speak with your class teacher to let them know if you are keen to come along and enjoy the fun.

Making Pā

Making our Māori Pā

Creating is under way in Kōtuku!

What are we REALLY learning?

Creating and Innovating ... because we had to solve problems and makes all kinds of things. (Nevaeh)

Persistence .... because when thing didn't work we had to find another way to do it. (Solomon)

Stop and Think ... we had to have a plan first (and we did!) to help us be successful. (Sophia S)

Have a Go ... we worked together in groups that were new. (Ioli)

Thinking Flexibly ... people had different ideas and we had to go with other people's ideas and add to their ideas to make things work. (Olivia C)

Questions ... Because we had to keep asking our group questions to be successful. (Olivia M)

Learning Forever ... we were learning things about Pre European Maori that we didn't already know. (Hannah P)

Past Knowledge ... we took the things we already knew and added to them. (Alice)

.... actually ... we were using ALL of the Habits of Mind!!!
