Week 1

Creative Writing:

What do you do...write a half page-full page short story.

Reading:

Reading 20 minutes per day. PER DAY!!!!

Speeches:

Practice your informative speech at home. Plan it, write it,

read it, present it! We start these on Wednesday.

Year Three, Week One, Term Two, Home Learning

Welcome back to you all. Term Two is a very busy term so we hope you had
lots of relaxation over the holidays and are ready for action! This term we
will be having weekly football tuition and then hockey tuition later in the term.

All children in Waka Puhara are required to bring “Field Shoes” or gumboots to
wear outside. They will get mucky so nothing new and shiny please! School shoes
will be worn inside the buildings.
(Can your child do their own laces yet? Great Year 3 goal).

Finally please can everyone bring a box of tissues to for the classroom.

Read your reading book and remember to fill in the log at the front
of your homework folder.

Maths: Study Ladder

This term we will begin to set Oral Language homework.

A weekly list of topics, expectations and success criteria will be in next week’s
homework document. Your child will have a regular day to present each week.

On Monday 7th this Term’s Story Map will come home.
It is incredibly important that this is shared with you at least a couple of times.
It is very apparent when the children know the story. It means when writing they
are able to focus on interesting vocabulary rather than worrying about what
comes next. It also means when we innovate on the text they have a solid foundation

to base their exciting new ideas on.

Named PE Gear must come to school on Monday and remain here all week.

Please have named sports socks in the Sports Bag.

A daily jog. Last term you could all do 5 minutes non-stop. Aim for 10 minutes this term.

Cross Country will be held on Friday 11th. Details to follow.

Please keep up the fitness at home.

Year 3 Home learning

You will notice there is a change in time as to when home learning is due in. We have talked at length about this and feel that as many children are involved in after school activities it may suit more to have time over the weekend to complete it.

1. Easter Project Due in on 9th too! We are excited to see all your hard work.

2. Read your reading book and remember to fill in the log at the

front of your homework folder.

3. Spelling Words:This week our words are to do with Easter.

donkey, Jesus, chocolate, rabbit

 

4. Spelling Work:   How many words can you make from the word        Easter? How many words can you make from the word chocolate?

eg hot.  You may move the letters around.

5. Please remember to return your library books to the returns box in the Omoho before Wednesday so we can issue new ones. See your teacher if you do not have a library folder.

If you have an apron your child could wear at school could they please bring it to school on Wednesday as we will be baking.

If you happen to have a small cookie cutter you could lend to us for Wednesday’s baking could you also send it along.

Maths:

For this task, you need to use the spelling words we use during this week,

and put them into interesting sentences. Be creative!

For example; The colour of the classroom was a putrid and disgusting

combo of unhealthy greens and nasty browns.

Reading:

You are expected to read 20 minutes every night. Make sure you are

Olympic Values speaker - Gemma McCaw

Year 4/5 were lucky enough to have Gemma McCaw come to share her experiences as NZ black sticks hockey player.  Gemma represented New Zealand in hockey for 10 years, a long career on the hockey field. 
Gemma talked about Excellence, Respect, and Friendship and also our St Mark's Values of Grace, Faithfulness and Courage.

in a newspaper or magazine and gluing them onto the bottom of

where ‘ I need a little bit of help’ and some extra for experts. Please do
the ones you can and as many as you can do. It was so good to see
most of you having a go at these activities.

Commonwealth Games Oath

The Commonwealth Games Oath is a Symbolic gesture of sportsmanship that traces its origins to the 1920 Olympic Games.  One athlete from the host country takes an oath at the Opening Ceremony on behalf of all of the athletes.

The Oath is

Task: Write an oath for our St Mark’s School and Community, try to

include our values of Excellence, Courage, Grace and Faithfulness.
